Sergio Reguilon
Sergio Reguilon, initially signed by Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, experienced a rollercoaster career trajectory that saw him loaned out to Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. Despite a promising start in north London, Reguilon found himself sidelined under former manager Ange Postecoglou, making just six appearances in his final year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Seeking to revive his career, he joined Manchester United on transfer deadline day in 2023 after the club failed to secure their primary target, Marc Cucurella, who signed for Chelsea. However, Reguilon’s stint at Old Trafford was short-lived, as he was sent back to Tottenham in the January transfer window of 2024.
Harry Redknapp said: “Does that matter? Just because Real Madrid let him go doesn’t make him a good player? He’s a fantastic left-back.”
Sergio Reguilon said: “It has been great to play for Manchester United and I just want to say thank you to the club, the fans and my teammates. It was a privilege to play for this huge club. I’m very happy, I think this is what I need now in this moment in my career. I want to meet my team-mates and play with them, and now just enjoy my football on the pitch. I’m in a moment where I need to play consistently and I think this club can give me that. These six months, I will do everything for the team, but it’s also important for my future. I’m happy after my conversation with Thomas; he knows me very well. We had many conversations about everything. I remember the first time was more than 40 minutes talking about football, about everything.”
Reguilon’s time at Manchester United under ex-manager Erik ten Hag was marked by inconsistency, as he struggled to secure a regular spot in the team. Despite this, he expressed gratitude towards the club and its supporters upon his departure. As he searches for a new club, Reguilon has been linked with Everton, although a return to Spain seems more likely, with Seville and Real Sociedad reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
