Nicolas Jackson

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has expressed his astonishment at Manchester United’s decision not to pursue Nicolas Jackson during the recent transfer window. The former Chelsea striker, who netted 87 goals in 177 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club, was surprised that neither Manchester United nor Newcastle United made a serious attempt to sign the promising forward. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s side was highly active in the transfer market, focusing on strengthening their attacking options with the additions of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “I’ve always liked Nicolas Jackson. He wanted to leave and you can understand that. I think Chelsea were happy to sell him. But he asked to leave, and I don’t know what I can say about that really. He’s at another club outside of England and I think Chelsea wish him well.”
Jackson completed a move to a Bundesliga outfit on deadline day, where he will remain on loan until the end of the season. Despite making six appearances, including one in the Carabao Cup, Jackson has yet to find the back of the net. This comes as Ruben Amorim’s squad experiences a mixed start to the campaign.
Ruben Amorim said: “When you are in a club like this, you want to have the best players but you also have to imagine the future. That is so exciting – I like to know the players, I like to see the videos of the players and to try to get all the information, but you want that confirmation and I felt Sesko was even better than what I was thinking. I have to be careful, Sesko is going to be our striker for many, many years so we need to put that in his head and let him settle down, to stay calm and enjoy his day because he’s really like you said, obsessed. I’m really happy – not just with him but with Cunha, Diego (Leon), and Mbeumo – we know that we have the players and we know that in our future we are going to have that base and that is really important for us.”
Amorim’s remarks underscore his confidence in the new signings and the potential they hold for the club’s future. With Sesko, Cunha, and Mbeumo forming the backbone of the attack, Amorim is optimistic about the long-term prospects of his team. Despite the initial challenges, the manager’s focus remains on developing a solid foundation for the future, ensuring that the players are well-integrated and poised for success in the coming years.
