Lifelong Everton FC supporter Simon Williams, 48, embarked on a 251-mile journey from Exeter to Liverpool with two friends to watch Everton’s match against Fulham. Despite initially facing disappointment after failing to secure tickets at the stadium, Simon’s experience took a heartwarming turn thanks to the generosity of fellow Everton fans.
Simon Williams said: “We thought we’d be able to get tickets at Bramley-Moore. After we were told they were sold out we went to The Terrace bar at the ground and tried to find resale tickets online. I went onto a website and purchased two tickets for £278. We [Simon and Susie] went back over to the ground and asked for help from a steward. We were told that the site was not an official website.”
Simon Williams continued: “She was called Sheila and she was with someone called Paul. I explained to her what happened. I apologised for the trouble and told her I was going back to the Terrace to watch the match from there. As we were walking back all I heard was Everton fans cheering from inside the stadium.”
Simon Williams added: “I joked and asked if they would be half price because it was after half time but she said no, they are free hospitality seats and marched us from the pub into the seats. It was so lovely, I couldn’t tell you the amount of times we thanked them.”
Simon’s journey began with hope as he and his friends walked from their accommodation in Liverpool city centre to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, only to find that the match was sold out. Determined to watch the game, Simon attempted to purchase resale tickets online, only to discover they were from an unofficial site. Disappointed, he returned to The Terrace bar, where he encountered Sheila and Paul, who offered him and his friend Susie free hospitality seats after half-time.
The experience was made even sweeter when Simon confirmed that Lloyds Bank refunded the £278 he had lost in the ticket scam. His story is a testament to the kindness of fellow fans and the community spirit within the Everton FC family.
