Jarell Quansah, the 22-year-old centre-half, has made significant strides in his football career since breaking through Liverpool’s youth academy three years ago. This summer, he joined the ranks of Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen, where his performances have seen his market value soar. Under the guidance of Kasper Hjulmand, Quansah has already featured in eight league games, showcasing his potential and attracting attention across Europe.
However, Quansah’s time at Real Madrid has been less straightforward. The full-back has managed only five La Liga appearances under Xabi Alonso this season, largely due to injury setbacks. Despite these challenges, Quansah’s form in Germany has not gone unnoticed, with Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel expressing confidence in the young defender’s abilities.
Thomas Tuchel said: “I have a lot of trust in Jarell. I see his talent, but I see the package. He is tall, he is fast, he is strong in build-up. He is strong in the air. I saw him very strong playing for Liverpool in this position, so I always wanted to try. And he plays every minute for Bayer Leverkusen since the under-21 Euros. Players that are on our long list, 55 or 60 players, to reach out to them, be in touch with them, explain to them why they were not here. Explain to them what they have to do, where they can improve. Can they even do something or is it just a choice? So this is my job in the next weeks and months. Why would I not? We can do group visits. We can do Jude Bellingham and Trent together. And visit the clubs. And some of them we will call. It’s better on FaceTime. Then I see the expression, at least, and get a feeling for the person. Or I need to visit them. Visit training, training grounds. Let’s see.”
Tuchel’s remarks highlight the comprehensive approach he plans to take in nurturing young talents like Quansah. His strategy includes maintaining regular communication with players, offering guidance on areas for improvement, and fostering a supportive environment for their development. Tuchel’s willingness to engage with players through various means, from FaceTime calls to club visits, underscores his commitment to understanding and supporting their growth.
Quansah’s journey reflects the challenges and opportunities faced by young players in top European clubs. While injury setbacks have limited his appearances at Real Madrid, his performances in the Bundesliga have demonstrated his potential to thrive at the highest level. As Quansah continues to develop under Hjulmand’s tutelage, his future in European football looks promising.
