Hull City
Joe Gelhardt has been a standout performer for Hull City this season, delivering an impressive seven goals in just 15 Championship appearances. The 23-year-old’s remarkable form has been pivotal in Hull’s ascent to fifth place in the Championship standings. Despite transfer limitations, Hull City managed to secure Gelhardt on a season-long loan from Leeds United, a move that has paid dividends for the Tigers.
Sergej Jakirovic said: “I don’t know (if it’s his best). You know better than me what he played like till now. He’s amazing, and I just know when I watched last season’s games, I wanted to do everything I could to make sure he was here with us, so I did everything. I begged Mr Chairman for one month to do everything to bring him here because Joffo likes this club. He’s very happy to play here and especially in our situation when we are under embargo. I spoke with a lot of players this summer, and some of them chose other clubs. I explained to them that I will have selected a good team. We will be good, so we are now on the good path.”
Gelhardt’s versatility on the field has been a significant asset for Hull City. He has seamlessly adapted to various roles, including playing on the flank and behind the frontman. This adaptability, combined with his speed and control, sets him apart from other squad members. His contributions have not only been in scoring but also in creating opportunities for his teammates, registering two assists in his last six matches.
Sergej Jakirovic said: “No matter whether he plays in the midfield, number 8, number 10, or right winger, he’s a very, very different player. He’s able to pass one-on-one and shoot on the outside. His speed, also, when you see him, maybe you are in doubt that he cannot run so fast, but he’s very quick, especially with very good control at full speed with the ball. And also statistics, without goals, you cannot win against anyone. He likes to be here.”
As Gelhardt continues to impress, there is growing anticipation about his future. With only 12 months remaining on his contract with Leeds United, there is expected to be significant interest in the young Liverpudlian. Jakirovic remains optimistic about Gelhardt’s potential to reach the Premier League, emphasizing his ongoing development and impact at Hull City.
Sergej Jakirovic said: “Yes, why not? He’s 2002, so 23 years old. Maybe he can reach the Premier League. He is already a member of Leeds, so I don’t know what happened in the past, but right now, he is making a difference. I hope everyone will stay till summer, but we will see. God knows and Mr Chairman.”
Gelhardt’s performances have not only justified Hull City’s faith in him but have also highlighted his potential to excel at higher levels of competition. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Gelhardt to see how he continues to develop and contribute to Hull City’s ambitions.
