Brighton’s young talents, Stefanos Tzimas and Charalampos Kostoulas, have caught the attention of experienced goalkeeper Jason Steele, who has praised their mentality despite the team’s recent 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. While both players missed opportunities during the match, Steele remains optimistic about their progress as they continue to adapt to their new environment. Drawing parallels with the journey of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and current Chelsea star Moises Caicedo, Steele emphasized the importance of patience and consistency for the club’s emerging players.
Jason Steele said: “If we’re looking in the past, it took Alexis a year. It took Moises even more than that, and we’ve got to be patient. At the same time, we have to keep demanding of them, keep making them aware of what’s demanded of them every day and that’s all we can do. You have to remember that this is totally alien to a lot of the young players and we have to stay patient, we have to keep supporting them, helping them and guiding them on the journey. Their mentality and temperament are top, top levels, so that’s fantastic for them.”
Steele continued: “It’s a game of football, anything can happen. We had chances, we played with lots of bravery. We had big, big moments. We’ve got a massively talented group of players and I think we’ve just got to keep demanding consistency. I think you can see in the first half (at Arsenal) the way we played, we can hurt anybody. It just means being consistent every game, every moment in every game. Keep doing the basics right, keep working hard. That’s all we can control.”
Steele’s comments highlight the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent by providing them with the necessary support and guidance. The emphasis on patience mirrors the experiences of Mac Allister and Caicedo, who both required time to adjust before making significant impacts. The goalkeeper’s leadership role within the squad ensures that the young players are reminded of the standards expected at the club, while also being encouraged to develop at their own pace. As Brighton continues to focus on youth development, the progress of Tzimas and Kostoulas will be closely monitored, with Steele’s mentorship playing a crucial role in their journey.
