Ruben Amorim
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has spoken about the expectations and challenges he faces at the club, emphasizing the importance of long-term planning to achieve success. Amorim’s comments come as co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe held up the former Sporting CP boss as an example of a manager who can deliver success at United, but only after a few years at the helm.
Ruben Amorim said: “No, I think every situation is different, of course. We can hold on to good examples. Mikel is a perfect example because it took a lot of things before this kind of moment he is in at the moment. I was not expecting because you never expect. It’s hard to say I was expecting this to happen but Mikel is a very good example about how to handle all of the things around football.”
Amorim acknowledged the parallels drawn between his situation and that of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, who endured a challenging start before leading the Gunners to the top of the Premier League. However, Amorim stressed that each managerial situation is unique and requires its own approach.
Ruben Amorim continued: “Despite finishing 15th in the Premier League last term and reaching the Europa League final, the 13-time Premier League champions are aiming for a return to European football. However, Amorim doesn’t consider this a measure of success for a club of United’s stature. We want to go to Europe, we need to return to Europe but we don’t know what is going to happen. I don’t like to call success going to Europe with this club. This club’s success is to win the Premier League.”
Amorim’s remarks highlight the high standards and expectations at Manchester United, a club with a rich history of success. While returning to European competitions is a goal, Amorim made it clear that true success for United would be winning the Premier League. He emphasized the need for honesty with the fans about the club’s current position and the steps required to reach their ultimate goals.
The manager’s comments reflect a realistic approach to the challenges ahead, acknowledging that success must be achieved incrementally. Amorim’s focus on long-term planning and gradual progress underscores his commitment to restoring Manchester United to its former glory.
