Marathon man Bruce Grobbelaar was facing one of the most demanding weeks of his career as he bid to play for his club and country in the span of just 24 hours. He was set to start for Liverpool in a must-win encounter against Chelsea and would fly to Zimbabwe to join his national team to face Guinea less than 24 hours later.
Bruce Grobbelaar said “The Guinea team still haven’t arrived, and the Zimbabwe coach will contact me today if there are any other plans. There is no danger of my thinking about Sunday until we’ve played Chelsea. We’ve not had much luck over the last two or three seasons. They did a very good job against Manchester United recently and are a very good side. If Glenn Hoddle does everything he did against United, it will be very tough.”
