Talking about how football fatigue and increasing injuries in the game were impacting a manager’s thinking when signing a player, Liverpool boss Graeme Souness said that a players’ injury and recovery record was a factor that was a big reason whether the club would sign a player or not.

Graeme Souness said “When you are assessing whether to sign a player now, you look hard at his strength as an athlete. If you are choosing between two who you believe are almost equal in skill, you will go for the one you think has more chance of lasting longest in a season.”

His counterpart George Graham of Arsenal agreed with Graeme Souness .

George Graham said “I have an injury situation at Highbury now that is worse than any other time in my seven years here. And when I talk to other managers most of them tell me the same story.”
