In this blog series – “What Happened Today”, we are reviving some of the moments from past which will restore golden history of the best league in the world.

Friday papers in United Kingdom ( Britain ) covered the news surrounding the upcoming premier league matches, where Everton traveled to Highbury, Ex-Red Devil Kevin Moran warned Manchester United to be wary of his new side Blackburn Rovers and Norwich traveled to Liverpool to put their title charge back on track.

Howard Kendall reminded his players of their battling away victories at Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United and warned them that anything less than that level of performance may spell trouble at Highbury. The Everton boss, desperate for a boost against Arsenal, was holding fire on naming his team because of uncertainty regarding the availability of Paul Rideout. Maurice Johnson, on the other hand, was a definite non-starter after missing training with a virus.

Arsenal, on the other hand, had started to pick up some pace after a moderate start to the season. On the back of three successive league wins they had moved into the seventh position. The 1990-91 champions had beaten Everton on their last four visits to the Highbury. Last season they ran out 4-2 winners with Ian Wright scoring all four goals. Alan Smith was also a danger man after opening his goal tally for the season in the 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest previous weekend.

Republic of Ireland defender Kevin Moran had promised Manchester United a torrid time at Ewood Park in their upcoming fixture. And that was despite the fact that the Red Devils gave Moran his big chance to break into top-level football. “The years I spent with United was fantastic. Whenever I get a chance in midweek, I watch United and I know all the players well, not just the ones I’ve played with.” But Moran was ready to lead Blackburn to a performance which would keep their supporters high, “We have made a tremendous start to the season and Saturday’s game in front of a full house will be one to savor for all of our supporters.”

Bryan Robson meanwhile had lost his battle for fitness and was set to miss Manchester United’s game against Blackburn. Ronson had missed United’s last three games with a thigh strain and although he did some light training, he was not to be risked in the match. Alex Ferguson’s son Darren Ferguson had recovered from an ankle injury and was set to feature in the game. He only resumed training after an x-ray revealed no break.

Top of the table Norwich was set to travel to Anfield to face Liverpool who was coming off a disappointing away loss in their European campaign at the hands of Glasgow Rangers. The Canaries lost 7-1 to Blackburn a couple of weeks earlier but despite the setback, Mike Walker’s team fought back in style with a victory over Queen’s Park Rangers. Another positive result against Liverpool would have put their title charge back on tracks.
