Daniel Farke
Leeds United are set to resume their Premier League campaign with a challenging home fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday. Daniel Farke’s team currently find themselves in 16th place, trailing Villa by ten spots and seven points. Despite a reasonable start to the season, there is mounting pressure on Farke, with pundits expressing concerns about Leeds’ prospects against a resurgent Villa side.
Chris Sutton said: “But this still feels like a massive game for them, because although they have made a reasonable start to the season, there are still some Leeds fans who are not sure about manager Daniel Farke. If they lose at home to Aston Villa, albeit an in-form and improving Villa, then it could start to turn ugly for Farke if they fall into the relegation places. So Farke needs something here and it won’t be easy because Villa have the quality to hurt them, and they have got a bit of momentum too. I don’t think Villa will lose this, and a draw would be a good result for Leeds.”
Paul Merson said: “I worry for Leeds a bit. I look at their team and I don’t know who is going to give them that X-factor. Aston Villa have turned a massive corner in recent weeks and are one of the most in-form teams in the league. I’d be shocked if they lose this game. Ollie Watkins hasn’t really turned up so far this season. He does a lot of unselfish work for the team though. I don’t think that work will go unnoticed in the eyes of the manager. Leeds need to go out and sign someone who can bring the X-factor to their team in January, if they want to stay in the Premier League. An easy win for Villa here.”
Harry Redknapp said: “Leeds need to find their shooting boots, and fast. Only Wolves have scored fewer than them and they just haven’t had much spark in the last few weeks. It’s been a difficult month for them. It just shows how quickly things can change in this league! This won’t be a high-scoring classic, but I just think Villa are in a better place and will have too much.”
Ian Wright said: “Villa.”
Gary Neville said: “Leeds were so bad against Forest, weren’t they? I know they’re at home. Leeds are going down – they were dreadful against Forest.”
Roy Keane said: “I said Leeds were going down after watching them in the first game of the season. I thought, ‘That’s not right, that.’ Shocking that night, I thought.”
Wright added: “This is why I’m no good at predictions. Why am I giving somebody a goal just because they’re at home? I don’t give Leeds a goal, unfortunately.”
Keane concluded: “In the end, Villa will go and win two or three-nil and you’ll say, ‘Oh, they’re doomed’.”
The consensus among pundits is that Aston Villa, currently one of the most in-form teams in the league, are expected to secure a victory at Elland Road. Leeds’ recent performances have been underwhelming, with their lack of goals a significant concern. As the pressure mounts on Daniel Farke, a positive result against Villa could be crucial in stabilizing the team’s position and easing relegation fears. However, with Villa’s momentum and quality, Leeds face a daunting challenge to secure any points from this encounter.
