Gerard Deulofeu Watford
Gerard Deulofeu, a former Everton star, has fondly reminisced about his time at the Merseyside club, expressing a heartfelt desire to don the Everton jersey once more. Deulofeu, who enjoyed two separate stints with the Toffees, has been battling a significant injury for the past three years, which has put his football career at risk.
Gerard Deulofeu said: “I played very well and had a great time with my teammates and I think I adapted very well to the Premier League. I was a regular until the last spell when [Ronald] Koeman arrived. I played quite a lot under Roberto Martinez, which is why I played in so many matches – I was very happy and, to be honest, I have very fond memories of my time at Everton.”
Deulofeu continued: “For me, it is one of the most important clubs in my career. My best memory is the connection with the fans, my connection with the Evertonians, with the Toffees, was incredible. My teammates were really good during my two spells at Everton. The goals, my machine gun celebration [I have] lots of good memories – the away matches when lots of Everton fans turned up – 2,000, 3,000 people travelling by train and the way they supported us, it was really nice and I have very fond memories. Honestly, I’d like to play another game for Everton.”
Deulofeu initially joined Everton on loan from Barcelona for the 2013-14 season, where he quickly became a fan favorite. After a brief return to Spain, including a season at Sevilla under Unai Emery where he won the Europa League, Deulofeu returned to Everton on a permanent deal in 2015. His second spell at the club was marked by strong performances under Roberto Martinez, although his playing time diminished following Ronald Koeman’s arrival.
Despite his career taking him to AC Milan and a return to Barcelona, it was during his time at Udinese in Italy that Deulofeu’s challenges began. A severe injury has since kept him sidelined, and he is currently undergoing stem cell treatment in hopes of making a comeback. Deulofeu has shown resilience and determination as he works towards regaining his fitness, with recent months providing positive signs of recovery.
Deulofeu shared on social media: “It makes me very happy all the affection you send me with messages of encouragement after the situation I’m living. The most beautiful thing is that I receive them from fans of each and every club I’ve been to and it excites me to think that with my football I could reach your hearts and now you return it to me with so much love.”
The unwavering support from Everton fans and others across the clubs he has played for has been a source of strength for Deulofeu during his challenging journey. As he continues his recovery, the affection and encouragement from supporters worldwide remain a vital part of his motivation to return to the pitch.
