Lewis Miley
Lewis Miley, Newcastle United’s promising young talent, has been making headlines with his impressive performances on the field. Recently, Miley played alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham, helping his team maintain control before being substituted for Sydie Peck in the 75th minute. Despite facing online criticism, Miley remains unfazed, focusing on his growth and development as a player.
Miley said: “I don’t really take much of social media. I never really look too much into it. I’ve got really good people around to support me in times like that. That’s such a really big thing, having family and good people around you. It wasn’t a big thing. It’s quite normal in football. At those times, you’ve just got to get even stronger and not listen too much to it.”
Miley’s journey with Newcastle United began when he made his Premier League debut against Chelsea at the end of the 2022/23 season, becoming the club’s youngest-ever Premier League debutant at just 17 years old. His versatility in midfield, coupled with his ability to excel in both attacking and defensive roles, has made him a key asset for the team.
Miley said: “He just wants to keep control of the game. It’s quite similar to club-wise, which is good, as you don’t have to change too much. We just play the two pivots and that really suits me. As a midfielder if you can do both, then it’s a really positive thing.”
Miley’s former teammate, now with Nottingham Forest, has also been a source of inspiration for him. Miley expressed admiration for his progress and the example he sets.
Miley said: “Elliot’s doing really well at the minute. I trained with him from the academy up to the first team, so it’s a really great thing to see what he’s doing. But you’re just always a 100mph in football. But it’s great watching him play and see how he’s doing. Even at Newcastle, when he wasn’t playing much, he was always a top player in training. Everyone knew the qualities he had and he’s showing that now.”
Praise also came for his current teammate, Lewis Hall, who played a crucial role in their recent match by winning the penalty that broke the deadlock. Miley is eager to continue impressing Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.
Miley said: “Me and Lewis vibe off each other. I’m glad Lewis is back from injury and hopefully he starts doing well again. The gaffer (Howe) and his staff have been really good for me. He’s trusted me in a lot of big games this season so far, and hopefully it continues. In the Champions League, we’re doing really well. We should do that after the international break.”
As Miley continues to develop his skills and gain experience, he remains a player to watch. England U21 will next travel to Slovenia for their upcoming match on Tuesday at 5pm.
