James Garner
James Garner’s impressive performances for Everton have not gone unnoticed, as the midfielder continues to draw attention from Premier League rivals. With his contract situation under scrutiny, Everton faces a crucial decision regarding the future of the 24-year-old talent.
David Moyes said: “He’s been fantastic since I came in. I didn’t realise probably how good he was. He’s been so good. He’s played great in midfield and he’s played full-back for me as well. I’ve said a couple of times recently he’s probably getting closer to getting talked about for England because of his performances. By the way, England have got so many good players to select from, so for anyone to select a team [is difficult]. I’ve been listening to discussions all week about (Phil) Foden and (Jude) Bellingham, etc., but all I’m saying is Jimmy is one of the group of young English midfield players who maybe in the future has a chance of getting a call-up. He’s done a brilliant job for us, Jimmy, and he’s playing very well.”
Garner, who joined Everton from Manchester United for an initial fee of £9 million on September 1, 2022, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Toffees. His versatility has seen him deployed in multiple roles by Moyes, showcasing his adaptability and skill on the field. Garner has made 97 appearances for Everton, scoring three goals, including a memorable long-range effort against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Interest in Garner is reportedly growing, with Newcastle United scouts regularly monitoring his progress. The midfielder’s current contract is set to expire next summer, raising concerns about his future at the club. Everton is keen to avoid losing him for free or at a reduced price in the upcoming transfer windows.
David Moyes responded: “I don’t know if he’s in the last year of his contract. I’m sure there will be a clause in there where we’ve got him so, I couldn’t even answer that question.”
Everton’s management is reportedly considering their options, with the possibility of extending Garner’s contract by an additional year. This move would provide the club with more time to negotiate a long-term deal and fend off interest from other clubs. As Everton prepares for their clash against Aston Villa, the focus remains on securing Garner’s future and maintaining the momentum built under Moyes’ leadership.
