Daniel Farke
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating during his team’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The match saw a controversial decision by referee Jarred Gillett, which Farke believes contributed significantly to the outcome. This decision came when Gillett awarded Forest a free-kick, leading to their second goal, a moment that Farke described as a pivotal error.
Daniel Farke said: “This was the first big mistake of the referee, because I think he was the only one in the whole stadium who saw a foul by Anton Stach. It was 100% a foul against him [Stach]. They put the ball long. We would have definitely preferred to play [by] the rules today, but we are also self-critical.”
Forest manager Sean Dyche, on the other hand, was full of praise for Morgan Gibbs-White, who scored Forest’s second goal. Dyche emphasized Gibbs-White’s positive performance despite his omission from the recent England squad.
Sean Dyche said: “He’s a good player and I want him to enjoy what he’s doing. He got in it before so it doesn’t mean he can’t get into the England squad again. I’m really pleased with him.”
The match began with Leeds United taking the lead through Lukas Nmecha in the 13th minute, marking the first time this season they scored the opening goal in an away game. However, their advantage was short-lived as Ibrahima Sangere equalized for Forest just 90 seconds later, capitalizing on a mistake by Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri.
Daniel Farke said: “It’s crucial that you transport your lead. So we should have taken [advantage] of going ahead to be more on and put more pressure on the ball, more in the duel. We gave it away, of course, too cheaply.”
Elliot Anderson’s stoppage-time penalty further compounded Leeds’ defensive woes, as they have now conceded eight goals in their last three away games, managing to score only one in return. The defeat leaves Leeds United with significant challenges to address in their defensive strategy, particularly in maintaining focus and resilience after gaining a lead.
