Newcastle United is grappling with a series of injuries as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures. The Magpies are currently without several key players, including summer signing Yoane Wissa and England full-back Tino Livramento. Additionally, Anthony Gordon is sidelined due to a hip issue sustained during the recent Champions League victory against Athletic Bilbao. Despite these setbacks, manager Eddie Howe remains optimistic about the team’s prospects as they navigate this challenging period.
Eddie Howe said: “We don’t think it is serious. We will get him scanned and see the results. Good chance he misses out on Sunday but we will see how he is today.”
Anthony Gordon’s hip injury has raised concerns, but Howe expressed hope that the winger would recover soon. Gordon, who has also been called up for England duty, is expected to miss the upcoming game against Brentford but may return to action later this month.
Eddie Howe said: “His knee is feeling good; it is more a case of looking at his fitness and sharpness. He is in a good place to kick on, but we need to get him in a position to be robust enough to help the team. I am sure he will be worth the wait.”
Yoane Wissa, who joined Newcastle from Brentford, is yet to make his debut due to a knee injury. Howe indicated that Wissa is progressing well in his recovery, with a potential return slated for December. The manager emphasized the importance of ensuring Wissa’s fitness and sharpness before he can contribute to the team.
Eddie Howe said: “Tino is still on track, we are looking at the Manchester City game for him for when he can be available.”
Tino Livramento, another key player for Newcastle, has been sidelined since September after injuring his knee against Arsenal. Howe confirmed that Livramento is on schedule to return later this month, with the Manchester City game being a potential comeback date.
Eddie Howe said: “It is something he has been feeling for a little bit, but it has been functional and able to play. But he has had a scan, and it told us to pull back a bit. He is likely to feature on the bench again at Brentford and has been called up for England Under-21 duty.”
William Osula, the young Danish striker, is also dealing with an ankle problem that forced him to withdraw from the squad against Athletic Bilbao. Although he is expected to miss the Brentford game, Osula is likely to return after the international break.
Newcastle’s injury list also includes Harrison Ashby, who is recovering from a thigh problem. With Livramento and Hall out, Ashby was anticipated to make his first-team debut, but his injury has delayed those plans.
Despite these challenges, Newcastle United is determined to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League. Sky Sports will broadcast at least 215 live Premier League games this season, providing fans with ample opportunities to follow the Magpies’ journey.
