Sean Dyche Burnley
Nottingham Forest is grappling with a series of injury concerns as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League encounter against Leeds United. The Reds were without several key players during their recent 0-0 Europa League draw against Sturm Graz, which forced manager Sean Dyche to make significant changes to his starting lineup. Despite these challenges, there is hope that some players will return in time for the weekend fixture at the City Ground.
Sean Dyche said: “I think it’s improbable, unfortunately. Maybe after that. Maybe after the Leeds game there’s a stronger chance. I still think we’re going to be pretty threadbare but we’re waiting on news. Hopefully, the game against Sturm Graz didn’t offer any more new injuries, so we’re hopeful on that. Recovery is key now but then still pre-planning for the next game. That is, quite obviously, the challenge of the game schedule – but particularly when you’re a bit threadbare with bodies. What’s helpful is the timing of the kick-off (in Graz). At least we’re getting in at a relatively reasonable hour, so that helps with recovery. Recovery is important now, we know that. Also, it is a challenge trying to get the level of fitness that I believe is right for the team while the game schedule is heavy – there’s no two ways about that. No one will be able to see your personal information and you will only receive messages from the NottinghamshireLive Reds writers. On the other hand, we do have a lot of specialist people who can help with that and with dietary requirements and all the rest of it. We’ll be using everything we can to get these players through that game and the players fit as quick as we can because this international period is going to be really, really important. But the first focus is to take on Leeds. Perform in front of our own fans and go and win a game, that’s the immediate purpose, that’s for sure.”
Despite the challenges, Dyche is optimistic about the return of several players who were unavailable for the match in Austria. Igor Jesus, Taiwo Awoniyi, Omari Hutchinson, and Jair Cunha are expected to be available for selection against Leeds. Elliot Anderson, who remained in the UK to recover from minor knocks, is also anticipated to make a return. Additionally, Matz Sels and Murillo, who were on the bench midweek, are likely to be included in the starting XI.
However, the injury list remains extensive, with Chris Wood (knee) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (dead leg) doubtful for the Leeds game. Other absentees include Douglas Luiz (hamstring), Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin), Angus Gunn (knee), Dilane Bakwa (unknown), and long-term absentee Ola Aina (hamstring). James McAtee and Arnaud Kalimuendo also suffered cramps during the match against Graz, highlighting the physical toll on the squad.
The upcoming two-week break after Sunday’s match could provide a crucial recovery period for Forest. Dyche is keen to head into the hiatus with a positive result, aiming to climb the Premier League table. The manager acknowledges the challenges posed by the fixture congestion and the need to balance recovery with maintaining competitive performance levels.
As Forest prepares to face Leeds, Dyche’s focus remains on delivering a strong performance in front of their home fans, with the immediate goal of securing a victory. The team will look to capitalize on the return of key players and the support of their specialists to navigate through the demanding schedule.
