Marco Silva
Fulham manager Marco Silva expressed his satisfaction following a crucial victory that marked a return to form for his team. After enduring a challenging period with four consecutive league defeats, Fulham managed to secure a vital win, much to the relief of Silva and his squad.
Marco Silva said: “I’m pleased, because we won a game that was important for us. Back to winning ways, back on track. It was a big, big game for us. Two things that I asked the players in the build up to the game – to win the game, a big game for us, and we mentioned many times the clean sheet that was going to be very important for us to achieve. To be back in a way that we were able to win the game with a clean sheet, the players did it better second half than the first, in terms of a performance point of view, but we deserved the three points.”
The victory was significant for Fulham, who had shown glimpses of positive play despite their recent losses. Silva was keen to highlight the importance of the clean sheet and the improved performance in the second half, which ultimately secured the three points.
Marco Silva said: “I don’t look just for results. I look much deeper than that. I was the first one saying that I was not happy at all with the run that we had before, but I knew what we were capable of doing. To be honest, we have been doing that even without key players. Imagine when we have all them available. That is the reality for ourselves. We won the game. First half, I felt the team was a little bit anxious, I have to say. Okay, the early goal gave us a bit of calm, to play, but first half was too erratic. We missed a lot of passes, our connection in the middle was not good enough. Second half, much better. Second half much more fluid. Our attacking movements and all that stuff and, because of that, we created more chances, we were more in control. I know that was against 10 men, but the second half was much better than the first.”
Silva’s comments reflect a comprehensive understanding of his team’s capabilities and the challenges they face. Despite missing key players, Fulham’s ability to secure a win underscores their potential when at full strength. The manager acknowledged the team’s initial anxiety, which was alleviated by an early goal, allowing them to settle into the game. The second half saw a marked improvement in their attacking play, even against a reduced opposition.
This victory is a morale booster for Fulham, highlighting their resilience and potential for future matches. Silva’s focus on performance over mere results demonstrates a commitment to long-term success, as the team aims to build on this positive momentum.
