Dominik Szoboszlai
Arne Slot said: “Dominik put in a good performance again. He is one of the players, after Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, who made the most appearances for me. So that tells you what I think about him.”
Szoboszlai’s impact has not gone unnoticed by other coaches either. Dino Toppmoller, Frankfurt’s head coach, who previously worked with Szoboszlai at RB Leipzig, expressed his admiration for the player.
Dino Toppmoller said: “I coached him in Leipzig. Unfortunately, he was injured for a relatively long time. He’s not the name mentioned most often among the entire star ensemble. But for me, he’s almost the most important player in this team. An absolute top player. Outstandingly good with the ball, superb set pieces, and he displays a sensational intensity.”
Toppmoller also praised Hugo Ekitike, another former player under his tutelage, for his swift adaptation to Liverpool’s squad.
Dino Toppmoller said: “There are several [Liverpool] players I trained already. [Dominik] Szoboszlai, [Ibrahima] Konate, and also for sure Ekitike. [Ryan] Gravenberch at Bayern as well. But for sure, with the connection [with Ekitike] it was closer because he was my player for one and a half years and my main striker, so it’s very nice to see how he directly fits perfectly in the squad of Liverpool. He has already scored his goals, and he already has a big impact on the game for them, and I expect him also to start tomorrow.”
Liverpool’s victory over Frankfurt not only marked a return to form but also showcased the contributions of Szoboszlai, Ekitike, and Ibrahima Konate, all of whom scored against their former coach. This performance underscored the tactical flexibility and depth within Liverpool’s squad, as they continue to integrate players who have previously thrived under different systems and coaches.
