Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish has opened up about his career challenges and how his move to Everton has provided a fresh start. The Manchester City loanee admitted that his enjoyment of partying has sometimes been a distraction, but he is determined to change perceptions and focus on his football. Grealish, who joined Everton on loan last month, credited manager David Moyes for giving him the freedom to express himself on the pitch.
Jack Grealish said: “People go, ‘he likes to go out, he likes to party’ – and I do. Sometimes at City, for example, I didn’t help myself at times, I’ll openly say that – but then I don’t think it was all down to that. There’s nothing more that I like doing than playing football.”
Grealish added: “I don’t mean this in an arrogant way but I do like it when managers say, ‘you’re the footballer, go and do what you want to do’… I’d rather someone just be like, ‘when you get the ball Jack, just go and play’. That’s what he says to me.”
He continued: “Obviously you have your jobs, you have roles to do without the ball and set pieces, but he says to me, ‘when you get the ball just go and do what you want to do’.”
Grealish’s new lease of life at Everton has seen him provide four assists in August, earning him the Premier League Player of the Month accolade for the first time in his career. Despite the Blues still searching for their first win since the international break, Grealish has been instrumental in their performances, including a standout display against his former club Aston Villa and a spirited effort at Anfield against Liverpool.
While he is yet to score for Everton, Grealish is keen to improve his goal-scoring record. His former manager, Tim Sherwood, shared a message from Grealish’s father, encouraging him to shoot more and aim for back-post tap-ins.
Grealish remains focused on delivering success for Everton, aiming to repay the faith shown by the club, manager, and supporters. He expressed his desire to win a trophy with the Blues and qualify for European competitions, stating it would be a significant achievement for the club and its fans.
Grealish said: “I think it will be unbelievable for the club and something the fans deserve.”
He concluded: “People were saying to me, ‘what are you doing going to Everton’, and I was like, ‘what do you mean?’. It’s a massive club. I’m at my best when I feel loved. You know I’m quite vulnerable off the pitch and I wanted to go somewhere to just feel the love again and just wake up with a smile on my face and want to play again.”
Grealish’s decision to join Everton appears to be paying off, as he finds himself rejuvenated and eager to make a lasting impact at Goodison Park.
