Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to claim all three points in their upcoming match against Newcastle United. This optimism comes despite Arsenal’s recent struggles, including a challenging trip to Liverpool and a home draw with Manchester City. Norgaard, who has been observing from the sidelines in the league, made his first start for Arsenal against Port Vale in midweek.
Christian Norgaard said: “It’s a very tough place to go. We never managed to win there with Brentford either. Every game is about taking it, it’s about trying to win them. We know it will be very difficult but we believe we can get three points there.”
Norgaard’s return to the starting lineup saw him occupy the number six role, a position expected to be reclaimed by Martin Zubimendi. The recent matches against Liverpool and Manchester City have led to some criticism of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, with accusations of a cautious approach. However, Norgaard defended his team’s tactics and mindset.
Christian Norgaard continued: “I think we’ve been going for it a lot in those games, particularly at the weekend. I know we equalised late, but I think we were the dominant side, looking over 90 minutes. With more chances, with more momentum. That could have created a lot of chances for some of the attacks that we had in the game. I think we are an attacking team with an attacking mindset. Hopefully that will also show in the next couple of games.”
Newcastle, known for their formidable home ground at St James’ Park, have recently strengthened their attack with new signings, including German striker Nick Woltemade. Despite the absence of Alexander Isak, who has been pivotal for Newcastle, Norgaard remains wary of the threat posed by the Magpies’ new forwards.
Christian Norgaard added: “I mean, they’ve invested in two weapons, Woltemade and Wissa. I know Woltemade is a good striker as well, and he will give them a different type of striker. But without Isak, Newcastle and St James’ back will always be difficult.”
Arsenal’s own new addition, centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres, is still adapting to his new surroundings and league. However, Norgaard is confident that once the squad gels, they will be well-positioned to pursue their title ambitions.
Christian Norgaard concluded: “The players, the talent is unbelievable. There’s so much quality in the team.”
Arsenal fans will be hoping that Norgaard’s optimism translates into a strong performance against Newcastle, as the team looks to regain momentum in their title challenge.
