Manchester City are poised to offer Brazilian talent Savinho an enhanced contract following Tottenham Hotspur’s unsuccessful attempt to sign him during the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old, who joined City from Troyes last year, has made a significant impact, playing over 3,000 minutes in his debut season and featuring prominently in the Club World Cup. Despite an injury setback at the start of the current season, Savinho marked his return with a goal against Huddersfield, underscoring his potential and importance to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Pep Guardiola said: “The only thing I’m concerned about today is that Savinho will be with us all the season, and hopefully for many, many years. Because at 21-years-old with the potential he has, playing a lot of minutes, he has to improve in final decisions, he’s an extraordinary player. But at the end, as always, the desire of the player prevails above everything, and after that there has to be an agreement with the club. If you don’t make an agreement, the player will be here.”
Guardiola further added: “Savinho created a lot last season but in the final third he was too hectic in the right moment. The moment he does that, the moment he improves, he will be a top class player. He created a lot last game against Huddersfield. When I analyse what they do, the body language, it doesn’t matter if you play Championship or Premier League it’s how you do it. When Savinho makes these steps in a natural way he will be a top player.”
The decision to offer Savinho improved terms reflects Manchester City’s commitment to securing their young talents and ensuring they remain integral to the club’s future plans. Savinho’s development under Guardiola’s guidance has been closely monitored, and the club is eager to see him refine his skills, particularly in the attacking third where he has shown promise but also room for growth.
The move to extend Savinho’s contract comes shortly after the close of the transfer window, signaling City’s intent to build a squad capable of competing at the highest levels. With the Brazilian’s potential and the club’s faith in his abilities, Savinho is expected to play a crucial role in City’s quest for domestic and international success.
