Chelsea’s surge had slowed down with two successive draws and manager Ian Porterfield had an additional worry, with top scorer Mick Harford struggling with a calf strain. Whereas Russian goalkeeper Dimitri Kharin’s work permit was yet to be in place, so he was unlikely to be in contention to start.
