Chelsea Faces Injury Setbacks Ahead of Crucial Newcastle Clash

Enzo Maresca

Chelsea is grappling with several injury issues as they prepare for a pivotal Premier League encounter against Newcastle United next Sunday. Following a 3-1 victory over Liverpool, Chelsea has moved level on points with Newcastle, who drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion. Despite their win, Chelsea remains below Newcastle in the standings due to a lower goal tally.

Eddie Howe said: “It’s all to play for. We have three huge games, three very tough games in different ways. Two of them are at home and we hope that can make the difference.”

Enzo Maresca said: “Christo will be out for, I’m not sure, I think one week, two weeks. We are going to see. He will be out for the next 10 days, 15 days.”

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, confirmed that Christopher Nkunku is expected to remain sidelined for up to 15 days, missing the upcoming fixture at St. James’ Park. Nkunku, who did not travel to Sweden for Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Djurgarden in the Conference League semi-final, is one of five players currently unavailable. The other absentees include Wesley Fofana and Omari Kellyman, both nursing thigh injuries, and Marc Guiu, who has been out since February but is nearing a return. Mykhhailo Mudry is also unavailable due to suspension.

Despite these setbacks, Chelsea is hopeful that Guiu could return before the season’s end. Maresca provided a positive update on Guiu’s recovery, indicating that the player is progressing well and could be back in one to two weeks to support Chelsea in the final stretch of the season.

With the Premier League entering a critical phase, Chelsea’s ability to manage these injuries will be crucial in their quest to climb the table. The upcoming clash against Newcastle presents an opportunity for the West London club to gain an edge over their European rivals, despite the challenges posed by their current injury list.
