Graham Potter, the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager, expressed his deep appreciation for his time at the club as he prepared to face them once again, this time as West Ham’s manager. Despite a challenging reception from Brighton fans during his previous return with Chelsea, Potter emphasized his respect and gratitude for the club.
Graham Potter said, “They have had some really positive results. They had a really bad result at Nottingham Forest and responded in a really good way. They are not in a great moment now but sometimes that can happen. They can have injuries, they can have problems with suspensions. They can be unlucky in games. The reason why that club historically have been so successful is they are able to look past the binary ‘You’re good if you win, you’re bad if you lose’. They will be able to analyse the performance, there will be some metrics behind what they are doing and that will give them the clarity that they will understand, they will get their path out of it. And that is their advantage over most football clubs. They will be fine. Hopefully not at the weekend but they will be fine.”
Potter’s tenure at Brighton was marked by significant achievements, guiding the team through the Covid period and securing a then best-ever finish of ninth place. He took over when the club had finished 17th in 2019 and left them in fourth place, highlighting the progress made under his leadership.
Graham Potter added, “I have nothing but respect, nothing but love, nothing but gratitude for my time there. Three-and-a-bit years, fantastic people (and) club. I have fond memories.”
As Brighton currently struggles with a winless streak, Potter’s comments reflect his belief in the club’s ability to overcome challenges through strategic analysis and resilience. His upcoming match against Brighton at the Amex Stadium with West Ham presents an opportunity for him to extend his positive record against his former club.
