In this blog series – “What Happened Today”, we are reviving some of the moments from past which will restore golden history of the best league in the world.

Sunday papers in the UK covered the news from all the matches in the Premier League that took place on Saturday where Middlesborough threw away a two-goal lead at Spurs, Coventry lost ground after being held at Everton, Norwich went back to the top after winning against Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday picked up full three points against Oldham Athletic.

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Middlesbrough 2

Middlesborough surrendered a two-goal first-half lead at the white hart lane against Tottenham Hotspur. Robbie Mustoe and Paul Wilkinson put Boro in a commanding position but Spurs came back strongly in the second half with Gordon Durie & Nick Barmby putting Spurs level again.

Everton 1 Coventry City 1

Third-placed Coventry lost ground when they were held at Everton. Everton took the lead via a Peter Beagrie goal but Peter Ndlovu equaled for Coventry just before the break.

Sheffield Wednesday 2 Oldham Athletic 1

Two quality goals were the only highlight of a dull Wednesday performance as battling Oldham tried to end a 68-year-old jinx. Oldham, who previously won at Hillsborough in 1924 fell behind to a blistering Sheffield spell which produced two goals in eight minutes. Carlton Palmer gave the Owls the lead before Mark Bright added the second seven minutes later. Oldham clawed their way back into the game a minute before the interval as Paul Warhurst charged into Ian Olney and was penalized for the foul in the box. England keeper Chris Woods reacted brilliantly to push away Nick Henry’s penalty kick but Mike Milligan was first to the loose ball to score for Oldham.

Norwich City 2 Queens Park Rangers 1 Bowen, Sutton Allen

Norwich climbed back to the top of the premier league with three points against Queens Park Rangers. A goal from Chris Sutton and Mark Bowen penalty inflicted QPR’s second successive defeat of the season. Norwich had a nervous final 15 minutes after Rangers substitute Bradley Alien took his chance to pull one goal back.

Chelsea 2 Ipswich Town 1

Andy Townsend was booked as Chelsea held nervously onto only their second home premier league match against Ipswich thanks to Mick Harford’s sixth goal of that campaign. Chelsea took the lead against the run of play via Gareth Hall in the 28th minute and double their lead after Mick Hardford scored in the 78th minute, Steve Whitton pulled a goal back a minute later but Chelsea took all three points in the end.
