In this blog series – “What Happened Today”, we are reviving some of the moments from past which will restore golden history of the best league in the world.

Thursday’s papers in the UK covered the news of Southampton putting their new recruit David Speedie for transfer in just three months, Howard Kendall’s pleasant injury boost, Liverpool manager Graeme Souness vary of “trouble” team Manchester United and Manchester City star Niall Quinn looking to add to his goals in upcoming matches.

In a shocking development, Southampton had transfer-listed David Speedie after only three months into his career at St Mary’s. Speedie was transferred at the start of the premier league campaign from Blackburn Rovers in a £400000. The ex Coventry City, Chelsea and Liverpool man has failed to settle down at his new club and should a permanent move can not be secured, Southampton will be open to loaning him out for the remainder of the season.

Peter Beardsley was on his way back to full fitness and was in contention to start the clash against Coventry City at the Goodison Park later that week. He played the full 90 minutes against Blackpool in a reserves game and his manager Howard Kendall would have been delighted at the news of him being available for selection again.

Liverpool manager Graeme Souness described Manchester United side as a team that always gave them trouble, even during his playing time. Speaking to the media before the match he said, “We have a big game on Sunday against United, we always had trouble there even when we were winning championships and they are still a strong side.” Souness also kept a lid on the fitness news of Rob Jones and Mark Wright despite both of them being fit again. He indicated that they will go into the clash unchanged from their last match against Sheffield Wednesday.

Manchester City’s new target man, Niall Quinn was enjoying his responsibility and was looking to add more goals to his game. The lanky goal poacher had already scored five goals for a City side that was struggling for goals that season. He had a great game earlier in the week playing against Denmark for Ireland. Meanwhile, City skipper Keith Curle was doubtful for the match because of a flu virus while Dutchman Michel Vonk was on the stand by after missing five matches due to an ankle operation.
