Mark Robins hit a splendid hat trick against his home town team to take Norwich back to the top of the Premier League table. Robins ended a seven-game goal-scoring duck by a sensational hat trick, third of which came in the 90th minute. Oldham as always was industrious and eager to go forward carved out to great early chances and came back twice to equalize via Graeme Sharp and Ian Marshall’s goals.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson must have been rueing the day he allowed Mark Robins to league Old Trafford. For on the day United manager admitted that there was a goals crisis at the club, Robins scored a hattrick for Norwich. Robins left United earlier that summer with an £800000 move to Norwich after failing to secure a regular first-team place. He had already scored 10 goals for the canaries. “If I’m scoring goals and United aren’t then there are bound to be comparisons but its just one of those things. I’m simply grateful to have been given the chance at Norwich.”

John Barnes had set his sights on returning to the Liverpool first team by November 23. Anfield boss Graeme Souness hoped to have the fit-again England international on the bench for Liverpool’s next premier league game against QPR at Loftus Road. Barnes suffered no adverse reaction to his 45-minute run-out in a Liverpool A game previous weekend. Barnes wanted to be fit in as many games as he can to be fit for the clash against Gerry Francis’ side “It all depends on how many matches I can get between now and QPR game as to whether I’ll be worth a place on the bench” He said

In a piece of positive news for Leeds United, goalkeeper John Lukic was given clearance by the medical team to return to the squad ahead of their match against Watford in the cup. He had received a medical clearance after a blow to his neck and ribs during the European Cup defeat against Rangers the previous week. He missed Leeds’ defeat to Manchester City and was hopeful to be back in the goal for Leeds’ next match after the international break.
