Norwich 1 Coventry 1 – Norwich Back Top of the Table but Drop two points

Goalkeeper Bryan Gunn escaped a red card as Norwich climbed back on top of the premier league in unconvincing fashion at Carrow Road. Gunn seemed certain to go off when he upended John Williams in 55th minute but for referee letting him off with a penalty kick. Angry Coventry chief Bobby Gould launched a furious attack on the referee after the game and described his decision as “Criminal”

Oldham 0 Blackburn Rovers 1 – Blackburn Get Three Crucial Points to stay in the title race

A goal ten minutes from time from Blackburn winger Stuart Ripley settled a dour Lancashire derby against premier league strugglers Oldham. It was no mora than high flying Rovers deserved as they ended the home side’s two-match winning run.

Ripley scored his sixth goal of the season.

Sheffield United 3 Ipswich Town 0 – Second Hat trick of the week for Brian Deane

Brian Deane hammered a second hat trick of that week as Sheffield punished Ipswich at home. The England striker put his team ahead in the 31st minute. United’s direct style stunted the windy conditions and their opponents could never got going on a difficult afternoon for the visitors.

Tottenham Hotspur 0 Sheffield Wednesday 2 – Former Spurs man Waddle puts man of the match performance

Trevor Francis was full of praise for former Spurs’ favorite Chris Waddle who inspired Sheffield Wednesday to their fifth win in an unbeaten six-match run. Francis said “Chris is playing very very well. He has been on top of his form and his use of the ball is truly exceptional.”

Mark Bright and David Hirst grabbed the goals which floored off-key Tottenham.
