Sean Dyche is still aiming to do business in the transfer market, as long as it is only incomings. Burnley have batted away offers up to £30million for defender James Tarkowski, with West Ham United first to try their luck, followed by Leicester City. Dyche has stressed throughout the transfer window that he has no intention of losing any of his key players. And while it appears he will be successful to that end, it has been more of a struggle to make signings of his own. As yet the Clarets have only been able to land goalkeeper Will Norris from Wolves and Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens. Dyche has said he would like “one or two” more, and there have been links to Liverpool winger Harry Wilson and Bournemouth defender Steve Cook.

Sean Dyche said “When those players are back fit, I think we are still one or two light, but we’ve certainly got a squad I can look at and go ‘okay, that’s a squad that knows its way round what we do here, and some of the challenges that presents to us’, When you’ve had seven key injuries, that’s a lot in any club’s world, but it certainly is in ours. The way the club works financially I can only carry so many players. If we try and carry competitive players in every position, quite obviously you’re looking at 20 outfield players. We’ve just sneaked below that, and add seven key injuries, we’re way below. It does look different when we get those injuries back. I certainly don’t want to be bringing in players for the sake of it, If we can get one or two, that’s bound to be helpful, just that competitive element for the squad. Whether we can or not is yet to be seen.”
