Steve Bruce has revealed that Newcastle United got through their return to first-team training without any complications – but they must remain vigilant ahead of Project Restart. Players returned to train in small groups at Benton yesterday and face a further round of testing for Covid-19 before getting back to training.
Steve Bruce said “We’re all together here – and all 40 of us have tested negative. We hope that is the case today. Phase one went as well as we could have expected. I have to say a big ‘well done’ to the medical people at our club and the organisation at the top from Lee (Charnley) to get all of this in place. It’s moving forward which is what everybody wants to see. I said before all this happened that we’d need time. In pre-season, we have six weeks off and then six weeks to get ready and five or six friendly games. We’re all in unprecedented times here. It’s not normal at the minute and it is a balancing act but let’s get through phase one first.
