Lee Hendrie Aston Villa

Lee Hendrie has spoken for the first time since his heartbreaking moment on Harry’s Heroes after revealing all about his depression struggle. The Aston Villa favourite, 43, broke down on the ITV hit show after confessing to Vinny Jones and ex-teammate Paul Merson about suicide attempts.

Hendrie said: “I fell deep down into bad depression. My house was being repossessed. My mom’s house was repossessed. That just destroyed me. That was it then, one day I got up, got pissed and took too much to drink and wanted to kill myself. I woke up on a life support machine. My body shut down. I tried to do it again. I just couldn’t grasp what was going on. I just felt that was the only way I could get away from it. Still, even now, every single day I struggle. I didn’t want to talk about it. A problem shared is a problem halved, I fully believe that. I will get there and I’ll make sure I do because I want to be a happy man again.”
