Wolverhampton Wanderers’ efforts were finally compensated in the 2-0 away win to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday, September 11. Wolves secured their first win of the season under new head coach Bruno Lage after 69 attempts to score from the past three successive defeats to Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Watford’s defender Francisco Serrieralta scored Wolves’ first goal of the season after scoring in the back of his own net. Head coach Lage then introduced South Korean Hwang Hee-Chan in the second half for his debut since his arrival at Molineux at the end of August. The 25-year-old did not disappoint after being handed his first appearance for the club, doubling Wolves’ advantage.

Ruben Neves said: “We’ve been working for this since the beginning of the season. Like we said after every single game before, we deserved a little bit more from each game we did at the beginning of the season. We finally get our three points, I think we deserved that, again I think we can improve even more, we have a lot of work to do, but we are really happy and really proud because I think we deserved that.”

Wolves’ first goal of the season may have come as an own goal from Sierralta, but it was by no means less deserving.

Ruben Neves continued: “After three games, we finally scored in the Premier League. I think we’ve been creating a lot of chances to score our first goal, and our first goal was an own goal; it doesn’t matter, the ball was in. We did a goal again after that, really happy for Chan as well, the first goal on his debut as well, but mainly really happy for the team and  the fans, they deserved it as well, they’ve been fantastic for us, even with the bad results we had, so we just want to keep on going, just want to keep giving them reasons to celebrate.”

The Old Gold outfit will now welcome Brentford to Molineux on Saturday, September 18 (kick-off at 12:30pm).
