UEFA have announced that national squads at Euro 2020 will now contain 26 players rather than 23 and that could have some positive repercussions for some at Tottenham Hotspur. UEFA announced the change on Tuesday as they seek to negate any potential problems caused by COVID issues within travelling squads.

The UEFA statement said: “To mitigate the risks of teams facing a shortage of available players for certain matches due to possible positive COVID-19 tests results and subsequent quarantine measures ordered by competent authorities, it has been decided to exceptionally increase the player list for all participating teams to 26 players. However, 23 players shall remain the maximum number permitted on the match sheet for each individual match, including three goalkeepers.”

That will not only like mean a 26-man squad but also a larger provisional one before the final names are announced.

Also, UEFA added: “Once the player list has been submitted on June 1, the current regulations allow unlimited replacements on the player list in case of serious injury or illness before the first match, provided that the replacements are medically certified.”
