Some of Tottenham Hotspur’s most experienced players have been ensuring the debate about their future remains open. There is a feeling within the club that this summer needs to bring changes to a squad which has spluttered and failed to impress in recent seasons. In an interview with French media outlet L’Equipe, Serge Aurier has reiterated his desire once again to leave Tottenham as the Ivory Coast captain’s contract reaches its final 12 months.
Serge Aurier said: “Everyone is aware that if I wanted to extend my deal at Tottenham, I would’ve done so already. I’m not going to do it in six months. I’ve reached the end of a cycle and it’s time to look elsewhere. The two parties, Tottenham’s board and my agents, have agreed upon the conditions. We’ll see after that. I’ve never hidden my desire to return to PSG one day. It’s the club of my heart, the one that I support and I feel free to speak about it, but I don’t want people to think that I’m stuck on them and I’m not closing the door on anyone, but if the club were to make an offer this summer, it’s sure that PSG would be my first choice
Then Moussa Sissoko was quizzed while on international duty with France about whether he will be at Tottenham next season. The 31-year-old is now in the final 12 months of his contract, although the club do have an option to extend it by a further year.
Moussa Sissoko said: “This is my fifth year at the club and I have had some very good moments. Now, I am a person who does not close any doors. If a new challenge presents itself, we will see what I do, but today, I do not close any doors concerning my future, because as I said, it was a difficult year for me at the club. I also want to see what the club will decide. Maybe they will say to me: “Moussa, it is time to go elsewhere.” Or maybe they will say to me: ‘Moussa, we absolutely want you to stay.’ In any case, I am open to all propositions today because I have experienced quite a difficult year. I want to play football. I am happiest when I am on the pitch. I will soon be 32 so I am closer to the end than the beginning of my career. What I want, is to continue to play, and enjoy myself. So I am not saying that I absolutely want to leave Tottenham. I feel good over there, I have had good moments and I feel good with the fans and my teammates, who I get on well with. We will speak with the club and we will take a decision at that moment.”
Even captain Hugo Lloris did not want to speak about his Tottenham future when asked,
Hugo Lloris said: “I will answer these questions once the Euros are over.”
Lloris is now in the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham. The 34-year-old has been at the club for nine years and after another consistent season in N17, Spurs are open to offering him another contract. All of those comments from senior players sum up the summer of change on the horizon at Tottenham Hotspur.
