Thomas Tuchel once again outlined his bemusement that his Chelsea side were asked to fulfil their fixture at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday despite having a number of Covid cases and bouts of illness and injury to deal with. Tuchel, though, hopes that he’ll have no more positive tests to deal with in the meantime and, if so, he wishes to speak to the Premier League after they were denied a postponement on a weekend when so many other clubs were affected and matches called off.
Thomas Tuchel said: “It will hopefully stop, but we’re hoping. If tomorrow we have another positive test, I’d like to speak to the people from the Premier League and ask them what they expect us to be. There is nothing else to do. Shall we stop and not arrive at the next game? Will we be made to play? Will they make us play against Brentford? Shall we not arrive, or train anymore? It’s clear what we want, and I don’t want to talk about it because I’ve given my opinion. The Premier League has an opinion, the club has an opinion and we must agree to disagree.”
There were chances for the visitors to take the points at Wolves, but the hosts held firm. Jose Sa in particular showed once again how much of a bargain he’s proving to be. Tuchel would rather point to his side’s other recent winless results as Manchester City seek to pull clear at the top.
Thomas Tuchel added: “The points we dropped today – did Manchester City win? Okay, predictable – the points that hurt are the points we lost at home to Man United, Burnley and Everton. These are the six points that hurt. Not today. I cannot and will not comment on any other decision that is made on other games being postponed or not being postponed. We never compared ourselves to any other situation, we are just concerned about the safety of other players. The players were concerned about their health because we had several positive Covid tests in consecutive days. That was it. From here we go. We talk a lot about safety and protecting the players, not so sure if we did this today, but on we go.”
