Kieran Trippier says the city of Newcastle is “buzzing” following the club’s remarkable rise under Eddie Howe. The Magpies will be third in the Premier League at Christmas after losing just one of their first 15 league games this season. Newcastle have won seven of their last eight matches in the Premier League – scoring 21 goals and conceding just four in the process. Howe’s charges boast the best defensive record in the English top-flight (11 goals conceded), and are the fourth-highest goal scorers in the division with 29 goals. Trippier has sensed the change in atmosphere in the city since arriving in Newcastle, and hopes that he can help propel the club to new heights.
Kieran Trippier said: “The city is buzzing, especially with the way we’ve been performing this season, and the back end of last season as well. The fans deserve that. Newcastle need to be back where they once were and that’s challenging. I’ve played at St James’ Park loads of times against them and you can see it’s a tough place to come. But I am definitely surprised by how passionate they are and the support, home and away, is mad.”
Trippier believes patience is the key to success but credits Howe’s ability to fill the dressing room with the right characters for their sudden transformation.
Kieran Trippier said: “It’s good that the manager had a good pre-season under his belt. That was important for the manager to stamp his authority, how he wants to play, and we’ve just been attacking every game. That’s the manager’s saying, ‘just empty your tank, just give everything’. I spoke to the manager before I signed and where he wants the club to go, and to help fight relegation. But you look at the signings we’ve made, great characters most importantly for the team. The manager is good like that. He wants to fit the right characters for the team, who he knows is going to run and give everything. We signed Bruno for like £40 million and Sven for £33m. But then we got Pope for like £12 million. He’s done unbelievable, I joined for the same. They’ve made the right signings, and they’ve just taken it step-by-step, and that’s the right way to do it.”
