Sean Dyche has revealed Burnley have “a couple” of Covid concerns ahead of Thursday’s clash with Manchester United. The Clarets head to Old Trafford later this week after an elongated break, having not been in action since December 12.

Sean Dyche said: “We have a couple of Covid situations as well as injuries. We are not too bad. Maxwel is touch and go, he is close and is back on the grass [so] we will have to make a call. We have been okay and the break has given [time for a] few knocks and minor ailments to recover. We are waiting on the [Covid] testing from today. Ideally we’d like to have played the games. We’ve used the time wisely with our players with a bit of downtime, recovery, and fitness work. We’ve done what we can to be in good shape going into the next game.”

Reports from Burnley have indicated the club are not at the stage of requesting a postponement, with Dyche still fully prepared for the trip to Old Trafford as he awaits the results of the club’s PCR tests. On facing United,

Sean Dyche added: “They have had a couple of challenging games where they haven’t looked like what people would expect from a Man U side. We beat them when they were having a quiet spell, but partly because we played well. We know it is tough to go to Old Trafford and take on Man United. We need to be ready and we are.”
