Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick believes Wolverhampton Wanderers have entered the race for the top four. When he was asked about the race for the Champions League spots at the weekend, Rangnick namechecked Bruno Lage’s in-form Wolves.

Ralf Ragnick said: “There are other teams involved in that race, it’s not only Spurs or Arsenal. Even Wolves is pushing from behind so it will probably be a race until the last couple of fixtures, but for us now it’s important to know that we can win games even if it’s in the last second of the game. This is important, that we are able to compete with those teams and win those games and not only against the teams from the bottom of the league but also against the teams like West Ham.”

A 1-0 victory over United at Old Trafford on January 3 kick-started Wolves’ perfect 2022. Wolves now face four Premier League fixtures against Arsenal, Spurs, Leicester City and West Ham which will go a long way to deciding the team’s final position. Lage has been inundated with questions about the prospect of leading Wolves into Europe throughout his first season in English football, but the head coach isn’t easily drawn on the subject.

Bruno Lage said: “To have the consistency to put together these results in December and January is very good for us. We have the right mentality. The games are different. The only thing I can promise to the fans is that from now on we need to put three things in the game: personality, consistency and the right mentality every time. We will go game by game. One more game, another three points, 34 points for us. We need to have a break because February is going to be very hard for us.”
