Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to rule out a move for Harry Kane amid the striker’s desire to leave Tottenham. When asked if Cavani’s renewal had ruled out a possible move for a striker in the upcoming window,
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said “No. Of course I can’t [say that]. Yeah, Edi signed but how many good strikers have we had at this club? I can’t say we’re not signing a striker, of course not. Because we’re building towards a better squad, we’re top three two years on the bounce but not where we want to be. Hopefully we end up with a stronger squad when we start next season and be more consistent to challenge the one in front of us.”
When specifically asked about Kane’s reputed transfer request,
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I can’t comment on other teams’ players and what’s being speculated and said. I want to show the respect Tottenham deserve as well not to talk about other teams’ players.”
Cavani has scored 16 goals this season and Greenwood 12, while Martial has mustered seven. Rashford is United’s second-highest scorer on 21 behind Bruno Fernandes. Kane, 27, is believed to have informed the Tottenham hierarchy of his intention to leave the club in the summer even though he has three years left on his contract. United are long-time admirers of Kane but extended Edinson Cavani’s contract by an additional year last week and have Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford as alternative options up front.
