Marcus Rashford believes Manchester United’s equaliser vs Manchester City was correctly awarded and doesn’t know ‘why it wouldn’t stand.’ Rashford spoke about the role he played in the goal and explained why he thinks there was no question about it being given.

Marcus Rashford said: “I just stopped. Obviously, if I thought I was onside then I can go on take the ball towards goal. But I realised I’d probably gone a little bit early and I just slowed down completely, I don’t think I was in the line or blocking any of their defenders so I didn’t know why it wouldn’t stand. If I was maybe blocking one of the defenders coming back in or something like that I could understand it but I didn’t. I just stopped running forward basically. So I think the goal should have stood and I’m pleased that it did stand.”

One admission Rashford did make, however, is that he thought City were the better team on the day but United did brilliantly to persevere and turn the game on its head.

Marcus Rashford said: “It’s a massive game. It was important for us to win this game. One, it keeps the momentum going and two it is a big game for the fans. It will do a lot for us. We have obviously shown progression since we last faced them. So to get the win today solidifies that, and hopefully we can keep going as a team and that was what it was today. I think they played better than us. They were a lot better on the ball. But we stuck together and we suffered out there on the pitch and we did that as a team and we got the win in the end.”
