Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has laid down the gauntlet ahead of Leeds United’s crucial clash with the Reds this weekend. With the fierce rivalry set for another chapter at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon, United’s Spanish shot-stopper is determined to leave West Yorkshire will at three points.

David De Gea said: “I know it’s a massive rivalry between the teams. It’s going to be a tough game, especially away against Leeds: good team, difficult team, different team. But we have to win this game as well to be in the top four and hopefully we can go there and win.”

Such is the importance of the fixture that De Gea says he is not even thinking about next week’s reunion with former club Atletico in the Champions League.

David De Gea said: “Yeah (it is a special match), but my mind at the moment is just about Leeds. Prepare well for the game, be ready for the game and this is the most important things – not just for me for but the team to be ready for Leeds.”

De Gea has been in inspired form so far this season, none more so than in Tuesday’s clash with Brighton. The Spaniard saved brilliantly to deny Jakub Mober in the first half, with the Whites bidding to record their first victory over the Reds since the famous 2010 FA Cup win.
