Jurgen Klopp claims that Liverpool didn’t get the rub of the green when it came to the major officiating decisions as they dramatically secured a 2-1 win over West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday. Goalkeeper Alisson, deep into stoppage time, joined his teammates in the Albion penalty area to attack a corner and he met it, nodding past Sam Johnstone to ensure that the Reds disappeared back up the M6 with all three points. Albion had, in open play across the course of the 90 minutes, given a largely very good account of themselves and took the lead through Hal Robson-Kanu after 15 minutes.

Jurgen Klopp said: “I didn’t feel for a second today as though anything was going in our direction. I saw one team playing football all the time, and one team getting free kicks so when we got one free kick which maybe wasn’t right, I’m absolutely fine with that.”

A significant collective sigh of relief came at the final whistle from the visiting dug-out.

Jurgen Klopp said: “We knew today it’d be a tough one – you’re playing against a team who have been through a lot of pressure situations, and in the end they couldn’t make it. Free of pressure, but with a really good attitude, they gave us a proper fight. Being 1-0 down…that makes life obviously not easy, in a game where constantly you have the ball and each time you don’t have the ball it’s a set-piece. The next ball is a set piece and how can you defend sets pieces at 1000% against a team like West Brom? It’s just tricky. It was a tough job to do.”
