Harvey Barnes is pleased to put a “frustrating period” behind him as he prepares to return to the pitch when Leicester City’s new season begins. The winger was one of several players present at Seagrave on Monday as City’s preparations for the new campaign began with the start of pre-season training. But that’s all behind him now, and he can look forward to being fit and available for when City’s new term kicks off against Wolves on August 14.

Harvey Barnes said: “The back end of last year was a frustrating period where I was trying to get myself back fit. I was watching on from the sidelines and couldn’t really do a lot. Over the summer, I’ve been in a lot for rehab, just trying to get back to 100 per cent again. Even though I’ve been at the training ground a lot, it’s been good to see everyone’s faces today and have some company. It’s been really good.”

Among those faces Barnes got to see was that of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. A fellow academy graduate, the central midfielder has a point to prove this summer after impressing on loan at Luton last season. He said everything went to plan in the Championship, and now he hopes to show his qualities at a higher level.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall said: “I enjoyed it, I managed to have a good rest and recharge and managed to come back for pre-season in good shape. I’m ready to get straight into it now and kick on. I was really proud of what I did at Luton. That was the plan, for me to go out and have a full season in a really good league. I did everything there that I planned to do in my head, and I was just happy to carry that out so everyone could see what I can do as a footballer.”
