Frank Lampard says the England job is “not in my thinking” and that his focus is solely on Everton. Ahead of the resumption of the Premier League schedule and Everton’s trip to Southampton, the 44-year-old said a future bid for the England role, should it come up, is not on his mind.

Frank Lampard said: “I’m very, very happy here and I have got a lot of work to do. I’m trying to help us improve and get us towards the new stadium and all those things. It’s not in my thinking at all… Gareth has done a great job. He’s preparing for a World Cup and it’s not in my thinking at all.”

Lampard’s current Everton contract runs to the end of next season – the last before the club is set to move to Bramley-Moore. No talks have yet taken place over the prospect of an extension, with Lampard and the club initially focused on overhauling the squad and wider football operation following last season’s relegation near-miss, and then securing progress on the pitch at the start of this season. He has no concerns over the lack of contract talks and has repeatedly highlighted his positive relationship with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright and chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale during his tenure. He has also spoken of his desire to succeed in a longer-term Everton project, suggesting he is keen to not just stabilise the club but to then continue to take it forward on the pitch.

Frank Lampard said: “I am not worried about it [his contract] at the minute. I just want to do my job well. I am enjoying my job and I want to do well. I have seen progress but I know there is a lot of work to do, but we are in that dangerous ground now where people are getting excited with progress. I am one of those, but it is one win this season we have had and I want a lot more than that. So I am not knocking on the chairman’s door at the minute.”
