Aston Villa have been handed a potential boost ahead of their first home game of the season against Everton. Calvert-Lewin’s injury means Everton will be without a recognised striker against Chelsea, having sold Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur this summer and Salomon Rondon still serving a suspension from last season. Paul Joyce of The Times has reported that the 25-year-old will be absent for “around a month”, though Lampard is yet to provide a definitive return date.

Frank Lampard said: “We are assessing Dom’s injury. No timeframe has been confirmed and we are pretty sure what level it is so we are hopeful it is not long-term. We’ll miss him for Chelsea. He was looking in great physical condition and was training really well. It was a freak injury in training, which does happen. It’s a shame but we have to find the solutions to keep ourselves strong without Dominic before he returns.”

In a further statement on Sky Sports News,

Frank Lampard added: “He [Dominic Calvert-Lewin] has a bit of an issue with the outside of his knee but we’re assessing it at the moment… I’ve read reports of rumours and people guessing the injury and length of time, but we don’t know. We’re hoping it’s weeks at the moment, but we don’t yet know that information. He’ll certainly be missing for the Chelsea game and probably the games succeeding that in the short term, but hopefully it won’t be too long.”
