Everton boss Sean Dyche said he was hoping Wolves would open up more in the second half before his team grabbed a stoppage-time leveller in the 1-1 draw at Molineux. Wolves appeared on their way to a fifth home win on the spin after Hee Chan Hwang fired them in front on 34 minutes but they were denied in the 99 th minute when Yerry Mina scrambled home a corner. The point improved Everton’s chances of staying up, having kicked off just one place above the relegation zone, and came despite first half injuries to Nathan Patterson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Wolves were already safe, having clinched survival a fortnight ago, but wanted to mark their final home game of the season with what would have been a fifth straight win at Molineux.
Sean Dyche said: “It was an odd game today. They got in front against the feel of the game, I thought. A breakaway goal, they get in front and then they kind of can defend it out because they have done their job for this season. That can be difficult to play against. Sometimes you want them to come out more and they sort of didn’t in the second half. We kept knocking on the door and trying to forge chances and openings, and we just kept going and going. It paid us back and that is a big thing for us, I that is a big shift since we have been here, that mentality to keep working and earning the right. I think we have done that to get a point.”
