David Moyes has once again confirmed that West Ham are looking to add to their squad before the end of the transfer window.

David Moyes replied: “No, when I took Frederick Alves I felt I had to have a look at him for six months to see what he can do and if he was not going to affect the first team then he would go out on loan.”

The manager pointed out he had a talented youngster in Jamal Baptiste on the bench but he is still hoping to add to his squad in the near future.

David Moyes said: “I have 17-year-old centre-half Jamal who I want involved in the first-team training but undoubtedly I am going to try and add to the squad. And I will be adding a defender and maybe other players as well but then if I don’t then I will be happy if the players perform as well as they did today.”

There are just 16 days left in the transfer window but Hammers fans will be relieved to hear that Moyes is intent on completing some transfer activity in that time. The Hammers began the season with a thrilling 4-2 victory away to Newcastle United, the first time since 2015 that West Ham have taken three points on the opening weekend of a season. Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma were in sublime form for the Hammers, notching a goal and assist each, but there were question marks about the West Ham defence after two weak goals were conceded. With Frederick Alves departing the club for Sunderland on loan and Fabian Balbuena moving on over the summer Moyes has limited options at centre-back. The manager was questioned if Alves’ move indicates the arrival of another defender before the end of the month.
