West Ham United manager David Moyes has admitted he intends to add more British and homegrown based players to his squad this summer. After leaning towards talent from across Europe last summer, Moyes said that although all rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt, he does admit a preference to leaning towards British recruits, if the value is there.

David Moyes said: “The first thing I’d say, and yous are part of it, don’t listen to all of the names getting thrown out there, that is for sure. If you wanted to start now and write them all down now, by the time we get back here and we finished in the window on August 31st, you’ll have to have cut down about three trees for how many you’ll have to put on it. I wouldn’t listen to all of that. But there’s part of that, I would say yes, I think I would like to a little bit more of British players or homegrown players if we possibly could. I wouldn’t set out to take one of them if I saw something better or I thought there was a better alternative.”

However, while saying he is leaning towards adding more homegrown-based signings, he does not envisage spending big money in the upcoming summer window, with value playing a big part. Moyes said rather than splashing the cash like they did 12 months ago, it will be based more on a needs-must basis.

David Moyes said: “Of course. I don’t see us being huge spenders maybe, but I don’t really think that will be the situation this year. Where we can and where we need to add to the squad, then we will do so.
