Chelsea have released a statement regarding the chants towards the club and supporters at Stamford Bridge during the 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United. Chants from inside the stadium were heard during the clash in West London on the first day of Stonewall’s 2022/23 Rainbow Laces campaign. The campaign shows support for all LGBT people in football and beyond and fixtures across the league today had Rainbow Laces pitch flags, ball plinths, handshake boards and substitution boards.

Chelsea Statement read: “Chelsea Football Club released the below statement following today’s Premier League fixture with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour totally unacceptable and we condemn the language used by some individuals today at Stamford Bridge. We are proud to be supporting Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign and today acts as proof that we must do more to make football a game for everyone. This year we are educating, celebrating, communicating and motivating allyship and action for our players, employees, fans and society.”

Manchester United Football Club are yet to comment.
